1911-1918

This series consists of a ledger that records transactions in the accounts of Indians under the Hayward Indian School sub agency. Entries include the name, age, and account number of the Indian, the source of the transfer, memoranda, a citation of the authorities, and activities in the account (deposits, withdrawals, balance). Most accounts contain some explanations of the transactions while some include descriptions of the Indian's allotment land.

Hayward Boarding School

The Hayward Indian School in Hawyward, Wisconsin, was opened in 1901 as a boarding school for the Chippewa of the Lac Courte Oreille Reservation. It was subordinate to the La Pointe Agency until 1904. About 1911 it was given agency duties for the reservation. The school was closed in 1934, and its duties were transferred to the Lac du Flambeau Agency. ...
